Living Willow Cuttings

For me, there is nothing more enjoyable than making a basket using our home grown willow; seeing how the rods work with a particular weave and how the glorious colours of nature react to time. We grow more than 50 varieties and whilst we have the more traditionally known varieties such as ‘Black Maul’ and ‘Dicky Meadows’, we also grow for colour as this adds strong hues to basketwork.
Willow is very easy to grow in the right conditions. If you are interested in growing your own willow for your basketry projects, we sell cuttings of our favourite varieties.

Our willow cuttings are harvested by hand when the plant is dormant. Depending on the weather, this is usually between December and January and planted between January and March. You need to allow time for your willow stool to mature as it normally comes into full growth after 3 years. That said, you will be able to harvest rods in the first and second years.

Cuttings come in 12” lengths but we can also provide 36” lengths and longer for pollarded planting or for living willow structures, should you wish.
We are authorised by DEFRA’s Animal and Plant Health Agency to issue plant passports, so all our cuttings travel with them as well as planting and care instructions. Please note, however, that we are currently only able to send willow cuttings to address in the UK (Scottish Islands, Guernsey, Jersey, the Isle of Man and the Isles of Scilly).
