While considering retirement, Gill realised she would need to keep herself occupied! With a passion for creativity and learning, the development of a centre based on rural skills and heritage crafts was conceived.
The Rural Skills Centre Limited was incorporated in 2018, offering a variety of workshops including basketmaking, floristry, soap making and woodturning. The overall aim is to provide experiences that are engaging and informative, preferably establishing memories of an enjoyable time here at the Rural Skills Centre.
Initially the focus was craft and floristry. However, following a refurbishment in late 2018, we now provide workshops relating to kitchen skills, enabling us to create hybrid workshops that incorporate craft and cooking. A good example of this is our Bread in a Proving Basket workshop where delegates learn basketmaking and breadmaking all wrapped into one workshop.
The Rural Skills Centre is a family run business with strong family values. We don’t want to compromise the quality of the experience we offer, we want to grow at a pace that allows us to keep our core values, structure and quality.
