Norbury (Salix Purpurea)
This is our most precious of willows. Salix Purpurea (Norbury) was a gift from our son, Matt and was the very first willow we planted. It is slender and very flexible enabling you to use it for fine work and in tight spaces. I like to use it in the ‘heart of my baskets’ for the slath/opening out the slath. Cuttings are fine even though they are taken from the thickest part of the rods.
Norbury is a dark green, fine willow and grows to approximately 2-5 feet in height. It is a perfect basketry willow and is included as one of the favourites, in ‘Gill’s Basketry Selection’.
We have included a photograph of our Norbury in the willow bed waiting for this year’s harvest.
