What will you learn?
You will learn about traditional baskets and the traditional basketry skills that are used to make baskets. You will also learn how to innovate and design your own contemporary baskets.
Who is the course/qualification for?
The City and Guilds Level 2 in Basketry is suitable for those who want to learn a new skill/craft and have basketry fun as well as those who envisage making a living from selling their work, or teaching basket making at some point in the future.
How much does the City and Guilds Level 2 Cost?
The cost of the course for 2026 is £2190.
How do I pay for the course?
Your place can be secured with a non-refundable deposit of £300.
Option A:
You can pay the balance of £1690, in full at the start of the course (£200 reduction for payment in full)
or
Option B:
Make a further 9 monthly payments of £210.
What are the entry requirements for the City and Guilds Level 2 course?
There are no entry requirements other than enthusiasm and an interest in learning. That said, you may find it useful to have attended a one day basketry workshop to see if you like working with willow/making baskets.
Prior to enrolment, you will be asked to complete a ‘skills scan’ so that we can make sure that the level 2 course is right for you. Sometimes, we direct basketmakers directly to level 3 as part of this process.
What is included in the course fee?
This includes all City and Guilds registration and certification fees as well as lunch/refreshments.
You will also be provided with materials to support your study, including a Student Handbook and relevant subject specific handouts.
You will need to purchase your own materials (willow, rush etc.).
When does it run?
The City and Guilds Level 2 course is one year, part-time (2 days a month) and runs from January 2026, through to October 2026.
There are two options. You can study for the qualification either on Tuesdays and Wednesdays or on Saturdays and Sundays.

There are FOUR units that make up the Certificate in Creative Techniques in 2D and 3D qualification.
Unit 201 – Developing design ideas
Unit 202- Using sampling techniques for 2D/3D work
Unit 222 – Making a basket with handles using traditional techniques
Unit 223 – Using innovative basketry materials
