Workshop Overview

Come and join Ingrid Walker and learn how to design and create unique glass pieces using the fusing technique. This is a full day course for those wanting to learn how fused glass is created and its potential as a creative medium. You will explore the possibility of fused glass for jewellery, table coasters and small glass panels. The glass pieces made during this workshop need to be fired in a kiln, attendees will receive their completed fused glass pieces approximately one week after completing this workshop. This exciting workshop also makes a wonderful gift for someone special.

What You Will Learn

During this workshop, you will:

  • Discuss the types of glass suitable for fusing;
  • Use the tools and equipment for fused glass safely and correctly;
  • Sketch simple designs for your fused glass project and discuss how these will relate to the fusing process;
  • Cut and grind glass safely and accurately for your fused glass project;
  • Create your fused glass design and prepare it for firing; and
  • Discuss the firing process.

At the end of this workshop, you will have designed and created your fused glass artefacts which Ingrid will fire for you. Fired pieces can either be posted to you or collected from the Rural Skills Centre.

Important Details

The Rural Skills Centre will provide:

  • All materials and equipment to make your fused glass project/s;
  • Tea/Coffee and lots of cake;
  • Lunch (let us know if you have any specific dietary requirements);
  • Parking; and
  • Accessible facilities.

 

Please bring or wear:

  • As you will be working with glass, please wear garments that fully cover your arms, legs and feet (i.e. long sleeved shirt/jumper, trousers/long skirt and shoes); and
  • If you have long hair, it is safest to tie this back.
